DEBUT EP

Ten Meter Band wanted to record their debut EP. They had the songs, they were well rehearsed, but they couldn't decide where to record it. Then it hit them. They do all of their rehearsals in their living room, so why not just set up a studio there? A few phone calls later, the room was full of microphones and black curtains, with a makeshift control room in the kitchen. The result, Living Room Black Box, is a 4 track audio/video recording of original music with songs by Giovanni Campanelli (Keyboards) and Murray Heaton (Alto Saxophone). It’s pretty sweet.

BIO

Ten Meter Band is a 7-piece instrumental Jazz Fusion band based in Toronto, ON. The group’s members met while studying music at Humber College, and have been playing at venues in and around Toronto since 2014. TMB recently released a 4-track EP titled “Living Room Black Box” which was, of course, recorded in their living room.

TMB has many sources of inspiration, including bands/artists such as Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper, Vulfpeck, Chick Corea and other groups that fuse Jazz, Funk and Soul genres into songs that listeners instantly connect with. Their goal is to make music that is interesting, fun to play, but that ultimately just gets audiences moving. The best parts of their shows are when they look out into the crowd and know everyone is having a good time.

The original band was actually formed in Montreal, QC, with a similar instrumentation and artistic mindset. Eventually, that group dissolved as the band members went their separate ways, but their bassist Andrew Phillips decided to bring the idea and some of their original material to Toronto. A couple of the older songs remain, but the new TMB has taken on it’s own identity, and has plenty of fresh material to thrill audiences.

Currently, the band is collaborating with a local singer/songwriter, as well as working on a full-length album to record in 2017.
